Help us remain

Living with Alzheimer’s can be harrowing for any older person, but for 2SLGBTQI individuals, it can come with an extra set of challenges. That’s why Egale aimed to raise awareness about these unique challenges, particularly the loss of identity within a cis-hetero healthcare system. The key objective was to engage both the community and the broader public to drive advocacy for systemic change and highlight the need for inclusive healthcare.

My name is Jue Maelie. My name means 'pearl beautiful', and summarizes my transition journey. It takes decades for a natural pearl to grow in its shell before it is harvested for the whole world to admire its beauty. This is how I see myself; cooped up in a shell for over six decades - sometimes going through hell - before finally blossoming and coming out at 72 years old.
